• I was a competitive swimmer for 15 years. I swam for The Mission Viejo Nadadores before heading off to college where I  swam at UCLA.• I was a Los Angeles County beach lifeguard for 10 years on the beaches of Santa Monica. •I joined The Janes Elite Racing team in 2012 at the age of 41 to see if I could improve my marathon time. My fastest when I joined was 3:10. •In 2019 (at 47 years old) I placed 1st in the women’s open division at the LA Marathon running 2:48.03. •One month later I was diagnosed with stage 2b breast cancer. • I had a double mastectomy and 18 lymph nodes removed in August 2019. Four weeks later I started to run again. •I began 6 rounds of chemotherapy at the end of September 2019 and ran 50 miles a week throughout the entire process. Last day of chemo was December 30, 2019.•End of February 2020 I had 25 days straight of radiation.I ran 70 miles a week during radiation.
My final surgery was at the end of August 2020. I am cancer free. I ran my first race since the L.A. Marathon in October 2020. It was a half marathon. I will start training for the London Marathon in May of this year. I'm first in my age division 45-49 and hope to keep it that way come October!
